- Day 7 74 km (46 miles)
- Pismo Beach to Lompoc
- Total 575 km (357 miles)
Christmas Eve here comes the sun! After two days of rain, we were happy to be riding in the sunshine. Highway 1 went a bit inland today through miles and miles of farms. We took a break at Guadalupe, and I spotted a mural on a building that from another bike blog.
The ACA told us to take the winding and hilly Harris Grade Road, which I assume was to avoid Vandenberg AFB. That route would have added a lot of unnecessary elevation to our route, so we were happy to see that highway 1 through the base was open to public traffic. The rain came back just as we arrived at the AFB visitor center, so it was our cue to take lunch.

We arrived at Lompoc (pronounced Lom-poke) around 2pm, so I went to visit the only bike shop in town 30 minutes before they closed for the holiday. Unfortunately, they didn’t have brakes that would reach my rims. No bike shops would be open tomorrow because of Christmas. Since I made it this far just on my rear brake in the rain without issues, I think I will just power through to the end. As if I was being punished for not fixing one issue, another one popped up. A supporting bolt for my rear rack fell off, but thankfully Dustin had a spareM5 bolt.
We got some sushi for dinner and then watched Gremlins while sipping on some Big Sur Double IPA.
