- Day 9 90 km (56 miles)
- Santa Barbara to Point Mugu (Malibu)
- Total 763 km (474 miles)
Another beautiful day to ride. We grabbed breakfast at the McDonalds behind the resort, which was in an iffy area of town. The railroad tracks must have marked some invisible wall, because just on the other side we passed by homeless encampments on the sidewalk and a crazy person rocking back and forth muttering to himself. You know it’s a good area when homeless is the majority of the dine in patrons and there are posted signs about a 30 min dining limit. Normal guests like us had to sit outside to eat.
We had to jump onto the 101 for certain sections again, but then highway 1 split out at Rincon Beach and we took that all the way to Ventura. Miles of RVs were parked along this beachfront road, and I don’t blame them at only $36 a day and 14-day max stay during off peak season. We peeked inside the Patagonia headquarters at the founder’s garage and then grabbed lunch at Smokin’ Jay’s BBQ & Hot Chicken in Oxnard waterfront.

Then it was onwards past Point Mugu Naval Air Station and back to hugging the cliffs and shoreline. This time, the cliffs were noticeably browner, sparse, and drier than Big Sur. We set camp for the last night of our trip at Sycamore Canyon Campground, with the whole hiker biker campsite to ourselves again.
The rest of the evening we spent at the beach, making dinner, and watching the sunset.
