- Day 10 87 km (54 miles)
- Point Mugu (Malibu) to Torrance (LA)
- Total 850 km (528 miles)
Homestretch! It was a bit of a shock to wake up in the cold after 4 nights of cushy hotel living. But in the end, it was nice to spend the last night camping. The road to LA got progressively busier and littered with debris as we approached Malibu. I got 2 flat tires within 15 minutes of each other; luckily it was sunny, and I was able to fix each one within 20 minutes. I was surprised it didn’t happen sooner as my skinny tires went through some tough conditions the past 9 days.
We stopped by the Santa Monica pier for some ice cream and a commemorative photo with the end of Route 66 sign. The rain returned and we ducked to Blue Plate Taco nearby for lunch. There was no escaping the wet conditions, but we were motivated to finish the last 20 miles strong. Luckily, we were able to ride on a bike path along the beach all the way down to Redondo Beach, and it was deserted because of the rain.

Riding through LA was another dreaded part of this trip because of the congestion, lack of green space, and lots of surface street riding. Therefore, we decided to catch a ride back to Orange with my dad. When we arrived at my sister’s house in Torrance, her husband, their baby, and my dad was there to greet us. Dustin and I were both happy to have completed this trip safely and with lots of positive memories.
